These ingredients will…

These Ingredients will create a recipe of gratitude at work

It's that time of year again when we dig out the recipes we only use once or twice a year. November is when we focus on what and who we are grateful for. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and there are a few reasons why:

1) The warm and beautiful colors of orange, yellow, and red are my favorite.
2) It's the time of year when we can indulge in delicious food without worrying about the carbs. I mean, with mashed potatoes, yams, stuffing, rolls, and desserts, it's a bit overwhelming, but we love it nonetheless.
3) Most importantly, Thanksgiving is about sitting at the table with our loved ones, eating together, reflecting on what we're grateful for, and expressing our gratitude.

Let me inspire you to bring a sense of gratitude to your workplace. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a recipe of positivity and appreciation that will bring joy to your daily routine. Remember, we all deserve to savor the flavors of a fulfilling work experience, not just during the holidays but every day.

You will need just six ingredients to get started:

1)    It all starts with increasing self-awareness. Take just five or ten minutes of your day to pause and reflect. Consider what you did well and evaluate what you could have done differently to achieve the desired outcome. Reflect on how you treated your employees and made your customers feel valued. If you need help pausing and reflecting, you can grab a tool from my website, be sure to scroll down to the middle of the page when you'll see a Reflection and Planner Tool to unleash your inner CHAMP. Click here

2)    Grant yourself grace and embrace the opportunity to improve when you fall short of your intentions.

3)    It's essential to chat and connect with your direct reports every week. Don't forget to compliment them and let them know what they're doing right. It'll make them feel appreciated and motivated to keep up the excellent work! Be specific with the compliment.

4)    Thank them for something, big or small. Be specific about why you thank them, not just a general thank you but give the detail about the reason.  Then, use their name. People love hearing the words "thank you" and they love hearing their name.

5)    Ask them how they are doing. Not just about their work but them as human beings.

6)    If you're wondering how to assist someone, ask them how you can be of help. Since it's probably work-related, you could ask, "What is one thing I could do to make your life easier?"

These six ingredients should be stirred together. Here are some benefits you may experience:

  • A confident team who feels grateful to work for the company, and you.

  • Increased appreciation and engagement with each other.

  • More creativity and collaboration and less complaining and frustration.

  • Loyalty
